Big things are happening on the Old Town waterfront in Alexandria.

Earlier this week, Hotel Indigo – an Intercontinental Hotel Group brand – opened at 220 South Union Street, next to where EYA is building Robinson Landing. And there’s a lot to like about this 120-room boutique property’s design.

Indigo’s cream-colored masonry block exterior, brickwork and mansard-style roofing complements the colonial architecture of the surrounding community. Metal barn stars, shipyard murals and a fisherman sculpture add nautical accents to the 75,000 square-foot-structure where the remains of an 18th century ship were found during excavation.

Alexandria’s first waterfront hotel features 40 rooms fronting the Potomac River. The remaining executive and standard rooms offer partial water views or Old Town city vistas. An inviting lobby, library and open-air patio with fire pits add to the ambiance.

And there’s more to come! Renowned Alexandria restaurateurs Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong will open their newest restaurant – Hummingbird – at Indigo later this month.

EYA welcomes Hotel Indigo to Old Town — it’s a great addition to the Alexandria waterfront, and a great neighbor for future Robinson Landing residents!
